Introduction to tethered shooting - If you are able to connect your camera directly to the computer, Lightroom has the potential to let you import image files directly from the camera.
Photographs can be quickly brought into Lightroom, bypassing the need for a camera card and having to configure the Import settings every time you import a batch of images.
This is also referred to as ‘tethered shooting’ and I say Lightroom has the potential to do this because Lightroom will need to rely on other software that can communicate with your camera and download capture files to a specified folder location.

I wrote a script to be the software that communicates with my D40 so I can see it while tethered shooting. I'd love anybody who is interested to try it out and let me know if it works for their config as well! Here's the link:

I found a way to not only shoot tethered with a Nikon and a Mac but also to directly import the images over the network to Lightroom on another Mac using Automator folder action:

So if you work in the studio with a laptop and want to see the images imported into your Lightroom database on your desktopcomputer based in the office, this works like a charm and it makes you look very Pro!!
